If You Give the Government A Cookie

Imagine, if you will, you are a blue-collar worker saving all year to purchase that 30-acre plot of land you have been looking at for the last six years. You’re going to make your last payment in a week, your house is built, and five acres are cleared. Then the federal government says it is unsafe, as the trees might fall on you. “It’s common-sense land safety.” That is why you can’t have it and that’s why they are taking it for their use. Sound familiar? Every day they try to say this about firearms.

Historically speaking, the government coming in and saying something is unsafe for their citizens usually points to how they believe that it’s actually unsafe for them. The first thing Adolf Hitler did when he took over his country was decree that the crime was too high. So, he was forming a gun registration to lower crime. Then, little by little, he began taking guns away from the people. When Fidel Castro came to power, he took a registry of the citizens’ firearms and ammunition. Once he had the information that he needed, he took all of them from the people.

Governments - even our own - are very much the embodiment of “if you give a mouse a cookie.” Case in point, in 1919, we were able to own the same weaponry our military owned. Now in 2022, we are fighting to get a fraction of those rights back and they’re still trying to take more. Where does it end? We must look at who is really to blame; is it you and I, or criminals taking daily what we work so hard for? Why do politicians always punish the law-abiding citizen instead of the criminal? In Australia they decided to ban certain styles of weaponry, then their crime spiked by 15% and even evolved some new forms as well. In New Zealand a terrorist opened fire and the political powers felt that was a golden ticket to get what they wanted. A short while later, another terrorist walked into a store, grabbed a knife off a display, and began stabbing people. The New Zealand government came in and banned all knives. Where does it end? Only by not giving the government a cookie.
