Poll indicates many don't see gun control as a solution to “mass shootings”

Author’s note: This poll was conducted and summarized prior to the horrific shooting event that transpired in Texas on May 24th.

Many of the people polled in a recent Rasmussen report indicate that further so-called “gun control” laws would not stop the criminal acts of shootings involving multiple casualties. One of the things we’re all aware of, it’s impossible to legislate away evil, criminal, and insane intent. Those that wish to do harm and commit terror among our population, no matter the motivations, will do so regardless of the law. Rasmussen polled 1000 individuals and their findings reflect reality:

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 40% of likely U.S. voters believe stricter gun control laws would help prevent shootings like the recent one in Buffalo. Fifty percent (50%) don’t think stricter gun control would help, while another 10% are not sure. These findings are almost identical to an April survey after a mass shooting on a New York City subway train.

The wording of two of the questions, for context:

“Would stricter gun control laws help prevent shootings like the recent one in Buffalo?

Is it possible to completely prevent mass shootings like the one in Buffalo?”

Perhaps more telling than thinking that stricter gun control would help is that they found:

“Sixty-one percent (61%) think it is not possible to completely prevent shootings like the one in Buffalo. Only 24% think it is possible to prevent such shootings completely, while 15% are not sure.”

The grim reality that we’re left to our own devices in the United States seems to be setting in society's consciousness. There’s no control - whatsoever - of people in the way of preventing evil acts through the regulation of the sales of certain types of firearms. All out bans also don’t work. We’ve seen that even when legal means of procurement of a firearm was not possible, shooters involved in these atrocities have resorted to straw purchasing, and/or stealing firearms in order to fulfill their acts of terror, in some cases murdering another person to gain access of their firearms.

When broken up by party, Rasmussen found the following:

“However, just 37% of Democrats, 13% of Republicans and 22% of unaffiliated voters think it is possible to completely prevent mass shootings. Democrats are far more likely than other voters to consider the Buffalo shooting an act of terrorism.”

And based off of support of our current administration, this was noted:

“President Joe Biden’s strongest supporters are most likely to see gun control as the answer to mass shootings. Among voters who Strongly Approve of Biden’s job performance as president, 82% believe stricter gun control laws would help prevent shootings like the recent one in Buffalo. By contrast, among voters who Strongly Disapprove of Biden’s performance, only six percent (6%) think stricter gun control would help.”

The short list of those that “approve of Biden’s job performance” is probably negligible here. That word salad is a real mind twister considering Rasmussen recently reported on Biden’s job approval rating the same day the report was released and found:

“The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll, sponsored by Miranda Devine's LAPTOP FROM HELL for Tuesday shows that 42% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President Biden’s job performance. Fifty-seven percent (57%) disapprove.

The latest figures include 20% who Strongly Approve of the job Biden is doing and 47% who Strongly Disapprove. This gives him a Presidential Approval Index rating of -27. (see trends)”

Kinda reminds me of the footage of Biden’s rallies…

The reason that most voters would say “no,” when asked if further gun control would lead to a mitigation of such events is because we’ve seen what prohibitionist ways yield. New York, a state that has all the desired fixings when it comes to “gun control,” is where the Buffalo shooting took place. Not a single piece of legislation stopped that event from transpiring, and the laws they have in place, which they stated would keep people safe (mainly the SAFE Act.), failed miserably at meeting the expectations of those that believe in the policy.

Areas with strict or lax gun laws are vulnerable to events like the one that occurred in Buffalo. Just as all persons are vulnerable to being subject to criminal acts. The difference is the areas where there are more pro-freedom laws on the books, the people have half a prayer in order to stop and or self-defend should there be an active shooter event. The prohibitionist mentality has failed our nation, as well as other nations. Law abiding armed citizens, individually or en masse, would make many of these shooters think twice. Good and proper security protocols and armed staff in our schools and centers where our children spend time, would stave off these kinds of events. That all goes to say that beyond the elephant in the room, the much needed reform is in our mental health system and competent policing when there is advance notice of behavioral anomalies.
